Why bedroom humidity often looks worst in the morning

A closed bedroom can gain moisture from occupants while room temperature falls overnight. Both changes push relative humidity upward. The useful distinction is whether the morning dew point also rose substantially or the room mainly became cooler.

Measure at the same times

Record temperature and RH before sleep and again after waking for several nights. Compare this with an unoccupied or more open room. The Lab can keep several rooms side by side so the bedroom is not judged in isolation.

Check the coldest corner, not just the hygrometer

Exterior corners, behind large furniture and window reveals may be several degrees colder than room air. If the calculated surface RH is high, moving air, lowering vapor load or warming the surface can each change the margin.

A lower overnight temperature can raise RH even without adding water vapor. Dew point helps show whether the moisture content actually increased.

Save each reading as a snapshot. If morning RH rises but dew point barely moves, cooling explains much of the change. If dew point rises too, moisture accumulated in the room.
